Stony Brook Opera, a premiere university music department, presents A Celebration of American Song as part of the Southampton Cultural Center Chamber Series on February 14, 2010 at 3 PM. Each year, Stony Brook Opera presents several productions at their home, the Staller Center for the Arts, including Baroque, contemporary and standard repertory including an annual fully staged opera. Our singers include Greta Feeney (San Francisco Opera, Juilliard Opera Center), Alison Trainer (New York City Opera, Opera St. Gallen), Risa Renae Harman (New York Festival of Song) and Andrew Fuchs (Amherst Early Music Festival). They all have extensive performing experience and are some of the finest and most charismatic singers to come through Stony Brook in recent years. Music Director and pianist will be Timothy Long, a nationally recognized conductor and associate professor at the university. Composers represented will range from Aaron Copland to John Musto and George Gershwin. It promises to be an exciting afternoon of magnificent music and beautiful voices.
