Southampton Cultural Center Offers New Acting Class for High School Juniors and Seniors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Southampton, New York - Michael Disher and Allison-Rose DeTemple will teach a monologue and audition class for high school juniors and seniors this winter at Southampton Cultural Center. Presented each Monday and Wednesday afternoon, February 25 through March 19, from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM. Mr. Disher and Ms. DeTemple will guide a select group of 16 student actors, with professional aspirations, into monologue study of classic and contemporary dramas and comedies. The class is designed to prepare actors, and students, for interviews and auditions and improve person to person communication and verbal skills.
"This 16 hour workshop has been created to allow local students an opportunity to work on plays, most likely not taught in their schools. Much of the material is blunt, truthful and earnest and has been assembled from the works of American masters of the stage and emerging playwrights with clear and distinctive voices," Disher stated. "Many schools focus on musicals and offer little or no representational training for their students. Quite often, I am approached by students who need monologues for auditions and want to develop their interview skills for college. This class can assist them and will provide a laboratory experience, similar to what they receive in college. In many cases, monologues provide the acting students with one-on-one coaching."
Auditions for the class will be held at Southampton Cultural Center on Tuesday, February 12 at 4:30 PM.
The cost of the class is $175.00.
This class is available to actors 17 through 19 years of age. Those interested should contact Ms. Lonnie at the Southampton Cultural Center and request a brief informational form. The form should then be returned with each actor's resume and headshot (or photograph), if available. Completed forms should be returned to Ms. Lonnie by February 7, 2008. At the auditions, each potential student will be given a monologue to read and interpret.
A monologue study class for adult actors is also being offered by Southampton Cultural Center.
