SUMMARY:Autumn Light
DESCRIPTION:
DEBORAH BLACK\,PRISCILLA BOWDEN\,GAIL KERN\,MARGERY GOSNELL-QUA

Gallery Hours\:
Monday - Friday 12 - 4PM or by appointment
Saturdays 10 - 6 PM

Opening Reception\:
Saturday\, September 18\, 4 - 6 PM

The focus of the exhibition is \\"light\\" and it's seasonal effect on the East End Landscape\, specifically Autumn\, and how this is given visual expression by four artists of the region. While the artists may begin with on-sight sketches\, none is a definitive plein aire painter. Each artist refers to color\, light\, and essential form\, with the combined dynamic of observed nature and imagination\, giving rise to an individual\, personal artistic statement.

For Priscilla Bowden\, a graduate of the Art Students League of New York\, inspiration began while living in the south of France\, whose light is often compared with that of the East End of Long Island\, and for over 40 years her paintings have paid homage to the American landscape.

SUMMARY:SCC Chamber Series Present Yarn/Wire
DESCRIPTION:
The 2010/11 series opens with Yarn/Wire.

Using two grand pianos and drums\, xylophones\, woodblocks\, and gongs from around the world\, Yarn/Wire creates sounds both delicate and immense. Eric Wubbel's alphabeta is an athletic exploration of sound and speech while Sam Pluta's meditative Tile Mosaic (after Chagall) is constructed like an elegant patchwork quilt. John Cage's beautiful Variations II folds overlapping musical lines into something akin to origami\, and Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story is an entertaining and exquisite tour de force\, demanding all of a performer's expressive palate. A group that must be seen and heard to believe\, Yarn/Wire will grow your ears and leave you tapping your foot.
