Southampton Cultural Center presents Reginald Rose's 12 Angry Men, directed by Michael Disher
January 21, 2010 and run through January 24, 2010.
12 Angry Men follows a dozen jurors after closing arguments have been presented in a murder case. Their verdict (whether guilty or not guilty) must be unanimous. A non-unanimous verdict, resulting in a hung jury, forces a retrial. The question they must answer is whether or not the defendant, a young teenage boy from a city slum, murdered his father.
The jury is further instructed that a guilty verdict will be accompanied by a mandatory death sentence—the electric chair. The jury of twelve spends ninety tense and often terse minutes encountering each others' opinions, personalities, peccadilloes and prejudices.
12 Angry Men has enjoyed enormous success as a television special, film and on stage since its creation in 1957.

The Shenole Latimer Quartet has become the signature ensemble for award winning jazz saxophonist Shenole Latimer over the years, and with good reason. The Laramie Project is Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project's theatrical reaction to the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. The murder is widely considered to be a hate crime motivated by homophobia.
The play draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theatre company with inhabitants of the town, company members' own journal entries and published news reports, data and documentation. It is divided into three acts, and an ensemble of actors portrays more than sixty characters in a series of momentary scenes and monologues.
